Common Terns Hunting in the Rain at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a place I regularly visit, and every session brings new opportunities to observe and photograph the incredible wildlife that calls this reserve home. On 5th June 2026, despite the rain, I spent some time watching the Common Terns as they hunted over the water, creating a fantastic photographic opportunity in challenging conditions.

Watching these elegant birds move effortlessly through the rain was a real pleasure. They flew gracefully above the water, carefully scanning below before suddenly folding their wings and diving into the depths in search of fish. Capturing these moments was both challenging and rewarding, with opportunities to photograph them banking sharply in flight, hovering briefly, plunging into the water, and emerging again with their catch.

The wet conditions added an extra challenge, but they also created a unique atmosphere and made each successful image even more satisfying. Wildlife photography is not always about perfect weather — sometimes the most memorable moments come when you work with the conditions you are given.

Another brilliant session at Warnham Local Nature Reserve, proving that a little rain never stops the wildlife or the opportunity to capture something special.
