Cormorant in Flight at Pagham Harbour

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Pagham Harbour is one of the most rewarding coastal locations in the UK for wildlife photography, offering a wonderful variety of habitats and birdlife throughout the year. During my visit on 16th May 2026, I had the opportunity to spend time photographing one of our most impressive coastal birds — the Cormorant.

Watching Cormorants in flight is always a fascinating experience. Their powerful wingbeats, long neck, and distinctive silhouette make them instantly recognisable as they move across the open skies above the harbour. Against the coastal backdrop, they make a striking subject, and capturing them in motion provides a great challenge behind the camera.

Photographing birds in flight requires patience, timing, and a good understanding of their movement. Cormorants are large and powerful birds, but their flight patterns can still make capturing the perfect image a rewarding challenge. When everything comes together and you freeze that moment in the frame, it makes the effort worthwhile.

Pagham Harbour continues to be a fantastic place to explore with a camera, offering countless opportunities to observe and photograph a wide range of coastal species throughout the seasons. Every visit brings new encounters, and this was another memorable day spent enjoying the wildlife and scenery.
