Female Broad-Bodied Chaser Laying Eggs at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! On 2nd August 2026, I spent some time at Warnham Local Nature Reserve, one of my favourite places for photographing wildlife, and was fortunate to witness some fascinating behaviour from a female Broad-Bodied Chaser.

She was busy moving across the water, repeatedly dipping down to deposit her eggs. Watching this behaviour unfold was fascinating, particularly because it is the sort of moment that can easily be missed if you are simply passing through the reserve. Taking the time to stop, watch and understand what is happening around you can often lead to some of the most rewarding wildlife photography opportunities.

Photographing behaviour like this is one of the things I particularly enjoy about spending time in the field. It is not always about simply finding a subject and taking a photograph; sometimes the real reward comes from observing what the animal is doing and capturing a small part of that behaviour in an image.

Another rewarding encounter at Warnham Local Nature Reserve, and a great reminder that there is always something interesting happening if you take the time to stop and look. You never quite know what you might discover when you give wildlife the time and attention it deserves.
