Foggy Morning Wildlife at Ifield Mill Pond – Canada Goose, Great Crested Grebe and Mallards

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Ifield Mill Pond is a wonderful location for capturing quiet moments in nature, and my visit on 25th April 2026 offered a completely different atmosphere from the usual. Early morning fog covered the pond, creating a peaceful and almost dreamlike scene where the landscape felt calm and untouched.

The mist hung low over the water, softening the surroundings and giving every moment a sense of mystery. A Canada Goose slowly moved through the haze, sometimes clear and sometimes almost disappearing into the fog. The conditions created a beautiful opportunity to capture the mood of the morning and the subtle beauty of wildlife moving through a changing landscape.

The highlight of the visit was watching a Great Crested Grebe surface with a fish before quietly slipping back beneath the water. The calm conditions made the moment even more special, with barely a ripple left behind as it disappeared below the surface. It was a perfect example of the patience and skill these birds show while hunting.

Mallard ducks also added to the peaceful scene, drifting in and out of the mist as they moved across the pond. Their relaxed presence completed the quiet rhythm of the morning, where every small movement seemed to stand out against the stillness.

It was a simple visit to Ifield Mill Pond, but one that perfectly captured how much wildlife activity can be found even when the world feels completely still. These quieter moments are often some of the most rewarding, reminding me that every visit with a camera can bring something unexpected.
