Wildlife Highlights at Warnham Local Nature Reserve – From Insects to Birds in Flight

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a place that never fails to deliver, with every visit offering the chance to discover something new. On 31st May 2026, I spent a fantastic day exploring the reserve, and the variety of wildlife encounters made it a memorable visit behind the camera.

The smaller inhabitants provided some incredible photographic opportunities, including the striking Amblyteles armatorius, beautiful Azure Damselflies, and a Broad-bodied Chaser basking in the sunshine. These close-up encounters are always fascinating, revealing the incredible detail and diversity found within the reserve’s habitats.

There was plenty of action from the birdlife as well, with some particularly memorable moments. A Buzzard carrying a mouse in flight provided a rare glimpse of predator behaviour, while a Common Tern successfully catching a fish showed the skill and precision these birds rely on when hunting. A Gadwall passing overhead added another species to an already impressive list of sightings.

Visits like this are a perfect reminder of why Warnham Local Nature Reserve remains such a special place for wildlife photography. From tiny insects hidden among the vegetation to birds performing incredible feats above the water and skies, there is always something waiting to be discovered.
