Male Mallard Resting at Ifield Mill Pond – A Quiet Moment by the Water

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Ifield Mill Pond is a wonderful location for observing everyday wildlife moments, and sometimes the simplest encounters can create some of the most rewarding photographs. During my visit on 14th June 2026, I spent some time watching a male Mallard resting peacefully beside the water.

With his head tucked comfortably into his back feathers and one eye still open, he appeared completely relaxed while quietly keeping watch over his surroundings. It was a lovely example of the calmer side of wildlife behaviour — a moment of stillness that is easy to overlook but fascinating to capture.

Wildlife photography is not always about dramatic action or rare sightings. Often, it is about being patient and noticing the small details: a bird’s behaviour, its body language, and those brief moments that reveal how animals spend their everyday lives. This peaceful encounter with the Mallard was a perfect reminder of the beauty found in simply taking the time to observe.
