Little Egret in Flight and Fishing at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! A visit to Warnham Local Nature Reserve on 2nd August 2026 provided a great opportunity to spend some time photographing one of the reserve’s elegant waterbirds, the Little Egret. The morning offered a mixture of action and quieter moments as I watched it moving around the water, searching for its next meal.

The Little Egret is such an elegant bird to watch, particularly when it is moving through the shallows looking for fish. I spent some time following its movements as it carefully worked its way around the water, watching for any sign of activity beneath the surface. There was always the possibility that the next movement would turn into a fishing attempt, which made keeping the camera ready worthwhile.

I particularly enjoyed trying to capture the Little Egret in flight. Photographing birds as they take off and move across the water always presents a different challenge, and catching the bird at the right moment can make for some very rewarding images. Alongside the flight shots, those moments when it suddenly focused on something beneath the surface and went into fishing mode provided some great opportunities to capture its behaviour.

It was a really enjoyable session at Warnham Local Nature Reserve, with the Little Egret providing plenty of action and a good variety of photographic opportunities. It is encounters like this that make spending time at the reserve so rewarding, as you never quite know what behaviour you might be able to capture during a visit.
