Little Egret in Flight at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! A visit to Warnham Local Nature Reserve on 1st August 2026 gave me a great opportunity to photograph a Little Egret in flight. The reserve always seems to offer something interesting to photograph, and on this occasion it was the combination of the bird's movement and some beautiful natural light that caught my attention.

The light was really working in my favour, with the low sunlight creating some lovely highlights and shadows across the Little Egret as it flew. I particularly liked the way the shadows brought out the detail in the wings and body, while the sunlight picked out individual feathers and helped separate the bird from the background.

Photographing Little Egrets in flight can be quite a challenge as they can move surprisingly quickly, giving you very little time to react and keep them in the frame. Having the chance to capture one in such good light made this a particularly enjoyable sequence to photograph. It was one of those occasions where the conditions, subject and timing all came together to produce some images I was really pleased with.

Days like this are a great reminder that you don't always need dramatic weather or a rare species to create an interesting wildlife photograph. Sometimes it's simply about being in the right place when the light and the subject come together.
