Red Kite Soaring Above Ifield Mill Pond

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Ifield Mill Pond is a place that never fails to surprise me. Whether it's a familiar resident or an unexpected visitor, every trip offers the chance to experience something memorable. My visit on the 18th of April 2026 was no exception, with a magnificent bird of prey providing the highlight of the day.

While spending time around the pond, I was lucky enough to spot a Red Kite soaring gracefully high above the water. Watching it glide effortlessly on the thermals was an incredible sight, barely needing to flap its wings as it circled overhead. As the sunlight caught its rich chestnut plumage and distinctive forked tail, it created a truly memorable wildlife encounter and a fantastic photographic opportunity.

Although Ifield Mill Pond is well known for its waterbirds and woodland species, it's moments like these that remind me to always keep looking up. You never know what might appear overhead, and a chance encounter with such an elegant bird of prey makes every visit worthwhile. Experiences like this are one of the many reasons I enjoy returning to this wonderful local nature reserve with my camera.
