Ruff at RSPB Pulborough Brooks – A Close Encounter with a Distinctive Wader

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! RSPB Pulborough Brooks is one of my favourite wetland locations in the UK, offering fantastic opportunities to observe and photograph a wide variety of bird species throughout the year. During my visit on 29th March 2026, I was lucky enough to spend some time with a Ruff moving through its natural wetland habitat.

The Ruff was a pleasure to watch as it explored the shallow waters and muddy edges, feeding carefully and occasionally pausing to survey its surroundings. These distinctive waders have such an elegant and unique appearance, and seeing them behaving naturally in their environment is always a special experience.

Capturing wildlife in these moments is about more than just taking photographs — it’s about appreciating the behaviour, patience, and connection with the natural world. Watching this Ruff as it moved through the wetland habitat was a reminder of why places like RSPB Pulborough Brooks are so important for both birds and the people who enjoy observing them.

It’s always a privilege to spend time with these fascinating birds at close range, and this visit provided another memorable wildlife encounter to add to my photography journey.
