Singing Wrens at RSPB Pulborough Brooks – A Spring Morning Full of Song

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! RSPB Pulborough Brooks is a wonderful place to experience the changing seasons, and on 29th March 2026 I spent some time exploring the reserve during the early days of spring. The improving light and increasing activity from the birds made it a rewarding visit, with one small species stealing the attention — the Wren.

Despite their tiny size, Wrens are full of character and energy. I was able to spend time watching them moving through the vegetation, darting between cover and pausing just long enough to burst into song. Their powerful voices seem almost impossible for such a small bird, and hearing them singing across the reserve is one of the unmistakable signs that spring is arriving.

Photographing Wrens can be a challenge as they are constantly on the move, disappearing into cover before suddenly appearing again. However, with patience and careful observation, these brief encounters can result in some very rewarding images. Capturing them as they went about their day was a reminder that some of the most enjoyable wildlife moments can come from the quieter corners of a reserve.

A simple but memorable session at RSPB Pulborough Brooks, enjoying the beauty of early spring and the character of one of the UK's smallest birds.
