Small Red-eyed Damselfly at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! On 1st August 2026, I spent some time photographing the Small Red-eyed Damselfly at Warnham Local Nature Reserve in West Sussex. It was another enjoyable session exploring the reserve and looking for some of the smaller wildlife that can so easily be missed.

These tiny damselflies can be easy to overlook as you walk around the reserve, but once you stop and take a closer look, there is plenty of detail and colour to appreciate. Their small size makes finding them a challenge, but getting the opportunity to photograph one up close reveals just how much character these delicate insects have.

I always enjoy these smaller wildlife sessions at Warnham. You don't necessarily need a large or dramatic subject to come away with an interesting photograph — sometimes it's simply a case of slowing down, looking carefully at the vegetation around you, and noticing what is hiding in plain sight.

This was another great reminder that there is always something interesting to discover at Warnham Local Nature Reserve when you take the time to look closely.
