Summer Bird Photography at Ifield Mill Pond – Gulls, Geese, and Growing Cygnets

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Ifield Mill Pond is a fantastic location for capturing a variety of bird species throughout the year, and my visit on 17th July 2026 provided plenty of opportunities to photograph the wildlife enjoying the warm summer weather. With the water full of activity and birds moving around the pond, it was a great morning for practising both flight and behavioural photography.

The Black-headed Gulls were busy patrolling the water, constantly moving across the pond as they searched for opportunities. Their flight patterns and quick movements provided some excellent chances to capture them in action. I was also able to photograph Canada Geese and Mallards as they made impressive fly-pasts, offering some great moments to freeze their movement and capture their character in flight.

One of the highlights of the visit was spending time with a family of Mute Swans and their growing cygnets. The young swans stayed close to their parents as they moved gracefully across the pond, creating a lovely example of family behaviour and the care these birds show during the breeding season. A passing Wood Pigeon also provided another flight photography opportunity, adding to the variety of species seen during the visit.

Ifield Mill Pond continues to be a rewarding place to visit, with different species and photographic opportunities throughout the seasons. Whether capturing birds in flight, observing behaviour, or simply enjoying the wildlife around the water, every visit offers something new.
