Tufted Ducks in Flight at Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Welcome to my wildlife photography journal! Warnham Local Nature Reserve is a place I regularly return to, and it continues to prove that familiar locations can still provide incredible wildlife moments. On 10th May 2026, I spent some time exploring the reserve and was treated to a fantastic display from one of its resident waterbirds.

Watching Tufted Ducks lift off from the water and move across the reserve was a real highlight of the visit. Their powerful take-off, rapid wingbeats, and striking black and white colouring made them stand out beautifully against the natural surroundings. Capturing birds in flight always requires patience, timing, and quick reactions, but when everything comes together, it makes the effort worthwhile.

Although Tufted Ducks are a familiar sight at many wetlands, there is always something special about seeing them in motion. Moments like this are a reminder that even the places we know well can continue to surprise us, with new opportunities to observe and photograph wildlife throughout the seasons.

Warnham Local Nature Reserve remains one of my favourite locations for wildlife photography, offering a wonderful variety of species and behaviours to capture throughout the year.
